Hi, I'm Mary Naughton

Starting in January 2026, I will be a Licensed Associate Counselor in New Jersey after transitioning from working in Pennsylvania. Over the past few years, I have gained experience providing mental health counseling to children, teens, and young adults. I have worked with clients diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and OCD. A lot of my work with clients focuses on building skills for improved self-esteem, emotional regulation, communication, and executive functioning. Additionally, I have experience navigating family conflicts and coordinating care with parents and school professionals. My overall goal as a clinician is to help clients learn how their mind works in order to build skills or create changes that may improve daily functioning and social relationships.

Despite working with several different diagnoses, a common feeling amongst clients I’ve met is the prevalence of shame in their life. To remedy this, I feel it is extremely important to lead with empathy in the therapy room. I want all my clients to know that therapy is a safe space where they are free from shame and judgement. As researcher Brené Brown says, “if we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive...” I believe the most valuable work can be done when clients feel safe and understood. In session, I often use games, creative activities, and humor, as needed. I am extensively experienced with providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, however, l find it best to use many different therapeutic techniques to ensure my counseling meets the diverse needs of each client.

A few key things to know about me on a personal note are that I love Taylor Swift, karaoke, and Philly sports – Go Birds! In my free time I enjoy weightlifting, taking walks with my Jack Russell Terrier, Molly, and spending time with friends and family. Also, I am a former theatre kid and love going to live performances and concerts. Most recently, I saw Sabrina Carpenter at Madison Square Garden!
